Fatwa CenterTestifying that one fulfils all religious obligations on website
Question
There is a marriage website. I think they require me to tick boxes during registration; it says:
- I testify that I worship Allah and none along with Him.
- I testify that I offer my obligatory prayer and strive to fulfil all the religious obligations which are compulsory upon me.
- I understand that this website is only for those Muslims who are practising and take their religion seriously.
- I swear by Allah that the information which I will supply on this website will be truthful and accurate. I will not attempt to mislead anybody, nor will I use this website for purposes other than seeking a marriage partner in a halal and permissible way. I understand that all interaction on this website is closely monitored 24 hours a day and that any conduct deemed to be un-Islamic may result in the termination of my membership...
My question is, am I allowed to just tick all the boxes even though I doubt if I actually meet the criteria such as the part where it says '...and strive to fulfil all the religious obligations which are compulsory upon me.'
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
If you are not keen on fulfilling the religious obligations compulsory on you, then it is impermissible for you to tick those boxes, but if you are keen on fulfilling your religious obligations and your doubts are only a matter of Waswasah (devilish/obsessive whisperings), then do not take those doubts into consideration, and you may tick the boxes, even if you sometimes fail to fulfil some religious obligations as long as this happens without insistence on your part to neglect them.
