Priority to those who need Da‘wah more

Question

Nowadays, should Da‘wah efforts focus on a certain category of people more than others?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

Da‘wah must be addressed to all categories of society; men and women, old and young. That was how the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, performed Da‘wah. He gave equal attention to every single individual.

However, if there is a necessity that requires focusing on a certain category for specific reasons, like if this category is exposed to danger from the enemies of Allaah because of their influence on the society, then it is permissible to pay more attention to it.

It is worth mentioning that Da‘wah must be built on the right methodology, that of the Ahlus-Sunnah Wal-Jamaa'ah, in both belief and actions. In other words, the calling to Allaah must abide by the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah as understood by the righteous predecessors may Allaah have mercy upon them. In addition, he must adopt the right means of calling people; kind words, gentle speech, wisdom and mild preaching, for Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is [rightly] guided.} [Quran 16:125]

This is further supported by the Hadeeth on the authority of ‘Aa’ishah may Allaah be pleased with her that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, mentioned that lenience is essential to perfect and beautify any work and that its absence makes that work defective and unappealing. [Ahmad]

Allaah Knows best.
