Sincerely Seeking Refuge with Allah and Doing Worship Truthfully Take One Away from Illegal Sexual Intercourse

Question

I pray and recite the Quran. At the same time, committing illegal sexual intercourse is my only point of weakness. What can I do? Please give me a logical and religious reply which agrees with my simple possibilities.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Since you pray and recite the Quran, as you have mentioned, then you are a man in whom there is some good. You have to resort to Allah, the Almighty, and turn to him in sincere repentance, so that you will be entirely good.

You should regularly recite the Quran and perform prayer in the way that pleases Allah, the Almighty, and be submissive in it so that it would forbid you to do immorality and evildoing. Allah, the Exalted, says (what means): {Recite [O Muhammad] what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do.} [Quran 29:45]

At the same time, you should reflect upon the Book of Allah and the threat to punish with severe punishment whoever disobeys Allah and follows his own inclination, especially those who commit the immorality of illegal sexual intercourse. Allah, the Almighty, says (what means):

· {And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way.} [Quran 17:32]

· {And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity or kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed], except by right, and do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse. And whoever should do that will meet a penalty. Multiplied for him is the punishment on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein humiliated, except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful. And he who repents and does righteousness does indeed turn to Allah with [accepted] repentance.} [Quran 25:68-71]

Whoever reads those Quranic verses and reflects upon their meaning and is a true believer who has faith in Allah’s promise and threats should, necessarily, be deterred from doing such immorality and repent to Allah thereof. For this reason, the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said, according to the narration reported on the authority of Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with himWhen an adulterer commits illegal sexual intercourse, he is not a believer at the time he is doing this.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

On the other hand, illegal sexual intercourse contradicts the noble manners and fairness with oneself. It is authentically reported in Musnad Ahmad on the authority of Abu Umamah may Allaah be pleased with him that a young man came to the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, and said, “O Prophet of Allah! Give me permission to commit illegal sexual intercourse.” The people surrounded him and rebuked him, saying, "Stop! Stop!” The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, told him, “Come close.” The young man came close to the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, asked him, “Do you like it for your mother?” The man replied, “No, by Allah! May I be ransomed for your sake.” The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said, “Neither do people like it for their mothers.” Then he asked him, “Do you like it for your daughter?” The man replied, “No, by Allah! May I be ransomed for your sake.” The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said, “Neither do people like it for their daughters.” Then the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said, “Do you like it for your sister?” The man said, “No, by Allah! May I be ransomed for your sake.” The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said, “Neither do people like it for their sisters.” The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, asked, “Do you like it for your paternal aunt?” The man said, “No, by Allah! May I be ransomed for your sake.” The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said, “Neither do people like it for their paternal aunts.” The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, asked, “Do you like it for your maternal aunt?” The man said, “No, by Allah! May I be ransomed for your sake.” The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said, “Neither do people like it for their maternal aunts.” Then the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, placed his hand upon the young man and said, “O Allah! Forgive his sin, purify his heart and guard his chastity.” After that, the young man never paid attention to anything of that nature. [Ahmad]
