Reading the Qur'an at least twice a year

Question

I read that it is the right of the Qur'an that it should, at the very least, be read completely twice a year. Is this true? The book that I read this in does not support what it says with Hadith or verses from the Qur'an.

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. Some scholars believe that whoever recites or reads the Qur'an twice a year, he/she fulfills its right. This is so because Angel Gabriel, exposed the Qur'an twice to the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) in the year the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) died. [Reported by Imam al-Bukhari ] However, other scholars think that it is dislikable to postpone reading the whole Qur'an less than forty days for no sound excuse. This is because Abdallah Ibn Umar once asked the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) What is the period in which you complete reading the whole Qur'an? The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) answered: Each forty days. [ Abu Dawood , al-Tirmizi and al-Nasa'e ] Allah knows best.
