Does not enjoy acts of worship

Question

All praises be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. The biggest problem I have in my life is neglect/ heedlessness of religious duties that will earn me reward and cleansing my spiritual mind. I pray five times daily but my mind is usually not focused on the prayer, I lack concentration and sometimes pray at home. Sometimes I fast Mondays/Thursday, but I could not differentiate it with the days that I am not fasting. My relationship with fellow Muslims have drastically reduced, I usually want to be indoors either watching TV or reading Newspapers/books. I find it very difficult to read Quran nowadays even a single chapter. This has been bothering for the past three months now. I always tell myself that the sudden change in my life is attributed to satanic forces, but I find it very difficult to overcome them. Please help me with spiritual guidance for me to come back to my senses and my normal self.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

First of all, you should know, dear brother, that you are not the only one to experience this, as many Muslims experience the same. Being neglectful about acts of obedience and religious obligations, and not enjoying acts of worship are a result of the weakness of faith. According to the belief of Ahlus-Sunnah Wal-Jamaa'ah, faith increases with acts of obedience and decreases with sins. So being neglectful and committing sins decrease faith. Therefore, a Muslim should always be keen to strengthen his faith and determination. We have already issued Fatwa 88104 on how a Muslim may renew and strengthen his relationship with Allaah, and Fatwa 83931 on how a Muslim may get closer to Allaah, so please refer to them.

We ask Allaah to rectify our hearts and our actions and renew out faith.

Allaah Knows best.
