Seeing the angels and speaking with them

Question

can angels come to people? or can angels communicate with people like you or me?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

The texts of the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) prove that the angels may take human forms, and that Allaah blesses some people by making the angels speak to them. Allaah Says about Maryam (Mary) (what means): {…then We sent to her Our Rooh (angel Jibreel (Gabriel)), and he appeared before her in the form of a man in all respects.} [Quran 19:17].

The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) informed us that a man visited his brother in another town and Allaah deputed an angel to wait for him on his way and when he came to him he said: "Where do you intend to go?" The man replied: "I intend to go to visit my brother (in faith) in this town." The angel asked: ''Have you done any favour to him (the repayment of which you intend to get)?'' The man said: "No, except that I love him for the sake of Allaah, The Exalted and Glorious." Thereupon the angel said to him: "I am a Messenger to you from Allaah in order to inform you that Allaah Loves you as you love him (for His Sake)." [Muslim]. This is in regard to seeing the angels and speaking with them. As regards visits, then the angels visit the gatherings where Allaah is mentioned, and visit the praying people at the 'Asr and the Fajr prayers, as confirmed by Prophetic narrations.

Finally, it should be noted that after the revelation stopped, it is not possible to be absolutely certain that a specific person was spoken to by angels, as it is not possible for the person himself who is spoken to be certain about it.

Allaah Knows best.
