Bomber kills Pakistan soldiers

A suicide bomber has killed at least three soldiers in an attack in north-western Pakistan, officials say.

Eight other soldiers were wounded when the bomber drove a vehicle packed with explosives into a checkpoint on the outskirts of Thai town, they said.

No-one has admitted carrying out the attack - the latest in a spate of bombings there in the past month.

The attacks come in an apparent revenge for last month's government assault on Islamabad's Red Mosque.

At least four suicide blasts in the region over the past month have killed over 70 people.

The latest incident happened in the North West Frontier Province on Monday.

A local police officer Mir Zali told the AFP news agency that the explosion was huge, and that the bomber was blown to pieces.

"Parts of his body were scattered in the area," he said.
