Making Athkaar (mentioning Allah) is not a condition for the validity of Tawaaf (circumambulation) rounds

Question:
It was my first time to go for ‘Umrah some time ago and I was not aware of the rulings of ‘Umrah. While circumambulating the Ka‘bah in the second and the third rounds I was not sure whether I made any Athkaar or supplications or not. Therefore, I made two rounds to substitute the second and third rounds. I recited some reported supplications throughout them and completed my Tawaaf. Now, I do not know whether my Tawaaf was valid or not. Please advise.

Fatwa:
All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), is His slave and Messenger.
Making Athkaar is not a condition for the validity of the rounds of Tawaaf. It is merely recommended to make Athkaar while circumambulating the Ka‘bah. Some scholars provided as proof the Hadeeth that is narrated on the authority of ‘Aa’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, where she stated that the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), said: “Tawaaf around the Bayt (Ka‘bah), (Sa‘y – walking)) between As-Safa and Al-Marwah, and throwing pebbles were only enjoined to establish the Remembrance of Allah.” [Ibn Khuzaymah and others, Al-A‘thami: Authentic chain of narrators, Al-Albaani: Weak]
As it is made clear that it is recommended, not conditional, to make Athkaar to maintain the validity of Tawaaf, you did not have to repeat the two rounds, since your first Tawaaf was valid anyway.
Allah Knows best.
