Divine Will & Its Effect on the Nurturing of the Companions

During the Makkan period, the Noble Quran addressed the issue of Divine will and decree. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {Indeed, all things We created with predestination.} [Quran 54:49]

In addition, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) would instill in the souls of his Companions the concept of Divine will and decree. This correct understanding and firm belief in the hearts of the honorable Companions with respect to Divine will and decree had great results that benefited them in this world and the Hereafter. These results include the following:
  1. Correctly worshipping Allah The Almighty
  2. Believing in Divine will and decree is a way of expelling polytheism as it makes one believe that the only One who could benefit, harm, honor, humiliate, raise or let down is Allah The Almighty.
  3. Courage and fearlessness as belief in Divine will and decree made them absolutely sure that their lives were in the Hands of Allah The Almighty, and that each soul has a predetermined term.
  4. Ease in facing hardships, adopting patience and seeking the reward of Allah The Almighty
  5. Tranquility of the heart, reassurance of the soul and internal satisfaction
  6. Self-respect, contentment and liberation from servitude to creatures

There are many other results, but we will suffice with those that were mentioned as a reference.

The nurturing that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) gave to his Companions was not confined to teaching them the aforementioned six pillars of Faith; he also corrected many of their concepts and beliefs about man, life, the universe and the relationship between them. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) did so to provide every Muslim with the divine light that would guide him in this life and make him realize the purpose of his existence in it. This would help him achieve what Allah The Almighty wants him to do perfectly, and be liberated from illusion and superstition.
