Her husband obliges her to swear that she did not sin in the past

Question:

alsalam wa alykium , am a married woman with a baby and alhamduallah am doing good in my marriage but the problem is before getting married i did something haram, and i repent to allah and stopped doing it , but my husband always asks me if i did anything wrong before getting married and i always say no and he makes me say wallah and i do , because i repent and i dont want to take the chance of my marriage messing up for a foolish mistake i made in my past so i want to know if i say wallah i never did anything wrong , is it still haram, is it considered lying ?? please help i want to know

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

 

First of all, we congratulate you for your repentance and we ask Allaah to accept it from you and safeguard you from erring in the future.

Your husband is not permitted to ask you about your past and whether or not you did something wrong, and you are not permitted to inform him about the sin which you committed. Your answer to him by saying 'No' as a way of Tawriyah (saying something which has more than one meaning and intending a meaning different from what the listener is likely to understand) is permissible, but it is not permissible to resort to swearing on a lie unless you are obliged to do so.
