Question:

Question regarding placenta when giving birth Salam alaykom wa RhamtAllah wa Barakatoh Here in the UK people are asked if they wanna take the placenta after they give birth to a child. My question now is what is islamically the right thing to do with the placenta. Should it be burried or is it ok if the hospital takes care of it? JazakAllah for the reply

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

The best thing to do is to bury this placenta if possible. Many scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them are of the view that it is desirable to burry what comes out of the body of a human being, like the hair, nails and the like, and it may be that the placenta comes in priority over the hair and nails in regard to burying it.

Allaah Knows best.
