Tawaaf Al-Ifadhah in Qiran Hajj applies to both Hajj and ‘Umrah

Question:

Is Tawaaf Al-Ifadhah done by a person who is performing Qiran but has not done Tawaaf Al-Qudoom sufficient to clear himself of his liability of performing Tawaaf (circumambulation) for Hajj and ‘Umrah together or for Hajj only?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Tawaaf Al-Ifadhah done by the one who is performing Qiran Hajj applies to both his Hajj and ‘Umrah. The Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said to ‘Aa'ishah may Allaah be pleased with her when she was performing Qiran Hajj, “Your Tawaaf around the House and Sa‘y (going back and forth) between Safa and Marwah are sufficient for your Hajj and ‘Umrah rituals.” [Abu Daawood] About the Companions who performed Hajj Al-Qiran with the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, ‘Aa'ishah may Allaah be pleased with her said, “Those who joined Hajj and ‘Umrah did only one Tawaaf.” [Al-Bukhari]

It should be known to the questioner that Tawaaf Al-Qudoom done by the performer of either Qiran or Ifrad Hajj has nothing to do with ‘Umrah; rather, it is a greeting to the House and an act of the Sunnah according to the opinion of the majority of scholars. Tawaaf Al-Qudoom done by a performer of Qiran does not stand for the Tawaaf of his ‘Umrah.

Allaah Knows best.
