Looking forward to the Day of Judgment

Question:

Is it wrong to look forward to Qiyamah?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

If by ‘looking forward to the Day of Judgment’ you mean wishing death, then the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, forbade us from doing so saying: None of you should wish to die, for if he is a righteous person, he would increase his good deeds, and if he commits evil, he would have the chance to repent to Allaah.” [Al-Bukhari] The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, also said: "One should not wish to die due to a calamity that has befallen him, and if he feels an urgent need to wish to die, then he should say: "O Allaah! Keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and take my life if death is better for me." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

However, if you mean to just wish and long for what Allaah has prepared for the believers in Paradise, then every Muslim should wish the same. There is no doubt that any person who has a sound mind would hope for this to happen when he hears the Saying of Allaah (which means): {And no soul knows what has been hidden for them of comfort for eyes as reward for what they used to do.}[Quran 32:17], and the Saying of Allaah (which means): {And therein is whatever the souls desire and [what] delights the eyes, and you will abide therein eternally.}[Quran 43:71]

Allaah Knows best.
