Playing a tape of Allaah’s Names during the wedding party

Question:

Assalaamu alaikum, I am looking for a fatwa that talks about putting on a tape of Allah's 99 names as the bride walks into her wedding party. Is it halaal? Bidaah? Jazak Allah khair

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Believing that listening to the Names and Attributes of Allaah during the wedding night (sermon) has a special virtue or excellence which is connected to this event, is a religious innovation. This is included in what is known as an additional innovation. However, playing the tape without believing that this time (wedding sermon) has a special virtue or excellence and without despising the Names and Attributes of Allaah is permissible in principle, like playing it in the car which transports the bribe for example.

However, there are some exceptions for this principle. When innovations start, they appear as if they are permissible but soon they become clear innovations. Therefore, preventing something which leads to an innovation is an obligation because it is an obligation to prevent innovations, and an obligation which is not achieved except by doing something, makes this thing become an obligation.

Allaah Knows best.
