Question:

I am going to Hajj and I would like to do 'Umrah as I am going to Makkah first for 6 days and after that to Madeenah and then to Mina, Allaah willing. If it happened that I have my period during my staying in Makkah and I already have Ihraam, what should I do as I will not be able to stay longer and I have to go to Medina? Thank yiou

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

If the woman assumed Ihraam in order to perform ‘Umrah and had menses after having performed the Tawaaf (for ‘Umrah), then she should continue her ‘Umrah: she should perform Sa’i and clip her hair, and by doing so, she would have come out of the state of Ihraam and may go to Madeenah.

However, if she has menses before performing Tawaaf, then she should stay in the state of Ihraam until she becomes pure. If she wants to travel to Madeenah before becoming pure from menses, she should stay on the state of Ihraam and abide by all the restrictions of Ihraam. Then, if she becomes pure and returns to Makkah, she should perform ‘Umrah, (Tawaaf and Sa’i) and if she fears to miss Hajj before she becomes pure and performs ‘Umrah, then she should combine the intention of Hajj with ‘Umrah and, in this case, she would perform Hajj Qiraan.

For more benefit on Hajj Qiraan, please refer to Fatwa 89172.

It should be noted that Mina is in Makkah, so if the questioner sister goes to Madeenah and then she wants to go to Mina, this means that she should go back to Makkah and perform Tawaaf and Sa’i for ‘Umrah and clip her hair and then come out of the state of Ihraam if she has enough time before the pilgrims stand at ‘Arafah, and then she should assume Ihraam for Hajj before going to ‘Arafah.

Allaah Knows best.
