Question:

what is the timing for tahajud prayer(last part of night) ,if second adhaan of fajr is at 5:00am in makkah? after the first adhaan of fajr, is it permissible to pray 2 sunnah rakahs of fajr ?can we pray other nawfil prayers at this time? is it obligatiory to wait for the second adhaan for praying fard prayer? pls help

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

We have already issued Fatwa 83333 clarifying the time of the Tahajjud prayer that it starts from the time after performing the ‘Isha prayer until the beginning of the time of Fajr prayer. The second Athaan in Makkah starts at the beginning of the time of Fajr, and the time to pray the two Rak’ahs of the Sunnah of Fajr prayer is after the beginning of the time of Fajr prayer (i.e. after the second Athaan). The obligatory Fajr prayer is not valid unless it is performed after dawn (i.e. at the time of the second Athaan). However, it is permissible for a person to perform as much supererogatory prayers as he wishes between the two Athaans (the first and the second Athaan); for more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 91205.

Allaah Knows best.
