Question:

As salaam alaykum. Dear Brother my qusetion is about aqiqa, Allah blessed me with a baby boy on 03rd of Oct 2008, I was planning to do his aqiqah after few months, but his grandparents (wife's parents)want to do it now only, I left my job 2 months back, so I have joined another company, I am financially not very strong right now. Is it okay if his grandparents do it from their money. Thanks in advace for your help in this matter.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

In principle an ‘Aqeeqah is religiously required from the person who is obliged to spend on the new-born baby. If another person performs the ‘Aqeeqah without the permission of the person who is obliged to spend on the baby, then it is not sufficient and acceptable according to the view of some jurists may Allaah have mercy upon them. However, some other jurists may Allaah have mercy upon them are of the view that the ‘Aqeeqah is sufficient and acceptable if it is performed for the new-born baby regardless of the person who performs it.

Therefore, if the grandparents of this baby perform the ‘Aqeeqah on the baby from their own money with your permission, it is sufficient and acceptable, Allaah willing.

Allaah Knows best.
