Question:

i want to go for umrah with my aunty and her daughter aunty age is above 45y because aunty husband cant go with them and also keenly interested perform umah as well. i think it is trurh worthy company for us ,so waht is your opinion about this matter .kindly guide me. ALLAH BLESS ALL OF US

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

If by aunty you mean your maternal or paternal aunt, then it is permissible for you to travel with her to Hajj or to any other place because your maternal or paternal aunt is a Mahram to you, but you are not permitted to stay in seclusion with her daughter if she reached the age of puberty or is nearly to reach it, because you are not a Mahram to her, and it is not permissible for this girl to travel without a Mahram (i.e. a spouse or a person whom one is permanently prohibited from marrying due to suckling, marital or blood relations).

However, if by aunty you mean the wife of your paternal or maternal uncle, then you should know that if the wife of your paternal or maternal uncle is not among your Mahaarim (plural of Mahram) –like being your maternal aunt for instance –then she is not a Mahram to you, and she does not become a Mahram just because she is the wife of your paternal or maternal uncle. In which case, she is not permitted to travel with you without a Mahram even if she is travelling for an obligatory ‘Umrah, according to the preponderant view of many scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them.
