Question:

i read Sura "Yaseen" and send it to my Family to have haapy life and to cousin's family (who is like a family to me as i am far from my own family) who are still alive. Or any thing read or memerised should be send to only who are not alive

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Reciting the Quran and gifting its reward to people who are still alive is permissible according to the opinion of the Hanbali School of jurisprudence, but this is not permissible according to the view of the majority of the scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them as we clarified in Fatwa 86828.

However, gifting the reward of the recitation of the Quran for a person who is alive so that he will lead a happy life, then we are not aware of any scholar who said this, and the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: Whoever introduces an act that is not in accordance with ours (concerning religion), it will be rejected.” [Muslim]

Allaah Knows best.
