Question:

One of our friend's Daughter is been diagnosed for Leukimia and currently in Hospital. Is it permissible for us to Conduct "Solat Sunat Hajat" in jamaah and Pray (Do'a) to ALLAH S.W.T for her Well Being and Recovery to Normal.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

We already issued Fataawa 84048 and 82384 clarifying that the prayer for need is permissible according to the preponderant opinion of the scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them. In principle, this prayer should be performed individually but it is permissible to perform it in congregation. It is confirmed that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) sometimes performed supererogatory prayers in congregation, but this should not be taken as a Sunnah in a way that people would perform this prayer in congregation whenever they have a need, because in this case it [this prayer] will be considered as a usual Sunnah.

Finally, it is permissible to supplicate in congregation after performing such a prayer provided this is not taken as a habit, because, if so, it will become an additional innovation as stated by the scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them.

Allaah Knows best.
