The story of the tower of Babel

Question:

Assalamu Alaykum,
Is the story of the tower of Bable and the spread of many languages among people accepted in islam?
Thank you

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

If you mean by this story what is reported in the forged Bible that when Allaah saw the sons of Aadam building a city and a tower, (And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.  And the LORD said, "Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them…." (Genesis 11:5-6), this is a fake story which indicates that the Lord undertook the action against them fearing that they might become able to do whatever they want. High Exalted is Allaah above all false tales.

The books which they claim to be revealed from Allaah are full of such lies. They are full of matters and stories that ascribe defects and faults to Allaah, the exalted, and His Prophets, may Allaah exalt their mention. Allaah Says (what means): {And they did not appraise Allah with true appraisal…..}[Quran 6:91], i.e. with regards to the Acts and Attributes that are intellectually necessary for Him or those which are intellectually possible for Him or those which are intellectually impossible for Him. Ibn ‘Abbas may Allaah be pleased with him said: 'They did not believe that Allaah has power over all things.' Al-Hasan may Allaah have mercy upon him said: 'They did not glorify him as he should be glorified. In spite of all such disgraced matters that their books contain they are not ashamed to attribute it to Allaah the exalted.'

Allaah Knows best.
