Question:

Will you please tell me about the Hadeeth in which the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam (may Allaah exalt his mention), mentions that Allaah The Almighty has given him the Quran and its like, meaning the Sunnah.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Al-Miqdaam Ibn Ma’di Karib may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said that Allaah The Almighty gave him the Quran together with its like, meaning the Sunnah.

The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, cautioned Muslims against some people who would be too affluent and arrogant to follow the Sunnah. These people would advocate adherence to the Quran only, observing what is lawful and what is unlawful according to it alone; not the Prophetic Sunnah. In this Hadeeth, the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said that Allaah The Almighty forbade the consumption of domestic donkeys and beasts with fangs, and that He The Exalted also forbade taking possession of the lost property of a disbeliever who has a peace agreement with Muslims. This is so unless that disbeliever gives away the lost property. In this Hadeeth, the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, ordered Muslims to serve food to a guest and to be generous to him. Allaah Knows best.
