11-5-2009 | IslamWeb

Question:

assalamu aleikom,
when i make Wudu, should the water get to the skin that's around the nail, or the nail itself?
jazakom allah khayran

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

Scholars stated that nails must be washed during the ablution, regardless of their length, because they are by nature attached to the hand, so they take its ruling. Therefore, it is obligatory for the Muslim to wash his nails along with the hand in ablution, and it is not enough to wash only the skin around them. For further information, refer to Fatwa 83035.

Allaah Knows best.
