Question:

Assalam alekum va raha matulr rahee va ba rakatahoo
I have one question regarding the death ceremoney of a muslim when he and she died and the people gave him or her bath after and put some ayat from his or her inside the kaffan (printed paper),Is this according to our shariya or instruction of quran kindly guide me

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

This act is not permissible because this leads to humiliating the Words of Allaah, it is for this reason that the scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them issued a Fataawa prohibiting writing Quranic verses on the shroud of the dead.

Ibn Hajar Al-Haytami may Allaah have mercy upon him said: “Imaam Ibn As-Salah issued a Fatwa that it is not permissible to write Quranic verses on the shroud in order to protect it [Quran] from the pus of the dead, ……... Ibn As-Salah established this and the Imaams who came after him did the same as well, and this is very obvious.

It is not in this manner that the dead is honoured; rather, the dead is honoured by following the Sunnah in washing him and enshrouding him.

Allaah Knows best.
