Question:

can i give sadakah for my brother who is dead and i have heard the soul comes to home on thursday to ask sadakah.and what is the best way to give sadakah.please help

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is permissible for you to give charity while intending the reward for your dead brother and he will benefit from it – Allaah willing – because it is permissible to give charity on behalf of a dead person, as we clarified in Fatwa 89131.

However, it is not correct to say that the soul of the dead person comes to home on Thursday because the matters of the unseen are only known by revelation and – as far as we know – there is no religious evidence about this.

For more benefit on the best types of charity on behalf of a dead person, please refer to Fatwa 83855

Allaah Knows best.
