Question:

Salam Alaykom,
I am a Muslim but I want to ask a question regarding what the bible says. The bible says "Believe that ye receive them"
Ok may question is: I know that the Jews changed alot of verses in the Bible but i wan't to know if that verse has not been changed? And also I'd like to ask whether there is a verse in the Kuran that states something similar in meaning. Please let's be open minded.
Thank you.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

The Quran confirms that Allaah responds to the supplication of the believer who supplicates Him; Allaah Says (what means): {And your Lord Says, "Call upon Me; I Will Respond to you."}[Quran 40:60] Allaah also Says (what means): {And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me-indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me.}[Quran 2:186]

Moreover, Allaah ordered us in the Quran to seek help in prayer; Allaah Says (what means): {Seek help in patience and prayer…}[Quran 2:153]

It should be noted that it is not permissible for a Muslim to read the previous Books unless he has enough religious knowledge to make him safe from being influenced by them and provided that he reads them with the intention to refute the allegations of the non-Muslims.

As regards one who wants beneficial information, then he should not resort to these Books as he has the Quran and the authentic Sunnah which are sufficient for him. Besides, it is not permissible to believe what is said in these previous Books because the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) forbade us from believing the People of the Book. Allaah Knows best.
