Making Athaan as a ringtone in mobile phone or computer

Question:

As Salaam Alaykum Sheikh, Can one keep "Adhaan" as alarm/reminder tone or calling tone in cell phones or computer? I usually wake up by "Adhaan" called through computer for Fajr prayer. Is this corect? Thank you.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is permissible to make the Athaan as a ringtone for the alarm or in the computer in a way that reminds a Muslim of the time of the prayer.

Also, we do not see any prohibition in making the Athaan or anything in which there is a mention of Allaah as a ringtone in a mobile phone, but we advise to avoid this because the person who receives the calls on his mobile phone does not have control over the time or the place when he receives the calls, as he might receive a call when in the toilet whereas it is known that we are ordered to protect the mention of Allaah from dirty and filthy places.

May Allaah increase your zeal in doing good and always enable you to wake up for the Fajr prayer.

Allaah Knows best.
