Question:

What is the origin of Harariyyah? Are they disbelievers as some people claim? If they are, what are their beliefs and supporting evidence?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

Al-Harariyyah (Al-Ahbaash) is a sect that is traced back to Abdullaah Al-Harari Al-Habashi. Their main ideas and principal beliefs can be summed up in the following points:

  1. The late Ash‘ari School concerning the Attributes of Allaah, which is almost like that of Al-Jahmiyyah.
  2. Al-Murji’ah and Al-Jahmiyyah in issues related to Faith.
  3. The deviant Sufi sects like Ar-Rifaa‘iyyah and An-Naqshabandiyyah

A number of contemporary scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah Wal-Jamaa‘ah have undertaken the responsibility of issuing a ruling on this sect; scholars like Shaykh Al-Albaani may Allaah have mercy upon him the scholar of Hadeeth, and others. Shaykh ‘Abdul-‘Azeez ibn Baaz may Allaah have mercy upon him issued a Fatwa stating that the Ahbaash are a deviant sect and their leader, ‘Abdullaah Al-Habashi, is known for his deviation and straying from the right path. Therefore, he stated that it is necessary to boycott them and deny their false beliefs and to warn people not to listen to them.

Allaah Knows best
