Question:

Is it allowed in Islam to sacrifice the body organs after death? In case they can, then will they be errected in the same way ( without the corres. organ ) on the day of judgement?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

We have already issued Fataawa 84292 and 86647 clarifying the ruling of donating organs after death.

As regards how a person who donated these organs will be resurrected, then he will – Allaah knows best – be resurrected on the Day of judgment in his complete form in the same manner as other people. His case is like the one who lost his organs because of any reason; the evidence about this is the Saying of Allaah (what means): {As We began the first creation, We will repeat it.} [Quran 21:104] Ibn ‘Atiyyah may Allaah have mercy upon him said in his Tafseer (interpretation of the Quran): “{As We began the first creation, We will repeat it.}, might be interpreted in two different ways: the first is that it is informing about the resurrection, i.e. as we created the creation without any preceding example, similarly we will create them another time and we will resurrect them from graves. The second interpretation is that it is an indication that every person will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment in the same form he was born in. This meaning is supported by the saying of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ): '' “(No doubt), people will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment barefooted, naked and uncircumcised.” Then, he recited (what means): {As We began the first creation, We will repeat it.}.” This Hadeeth was reported by Muslim on the authority of Ibn ‘Abbaas may Allaah be pleased with him.” [End quote]

This Hadeeth was reported by both Al-Bukhari and Muslim, and Muslim did not report it apart from Al-Bukhari.

Allaah Knows best.
