Question:

Is there an excuse for a patient of acute eosinophelia from ghusl after intercourse. Can she recite and do salaath without ghusl.Doctors advise her to abstain from water.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

First of all, it should be mentioned that what we have been informed by the doctors about the disease which you referred to in the question, is that the patient of such a disease is not harmed by using water; he/she may be harmed by the use of hot water only. Therefore, it is not permissible to perform Tayammum (dry ablution) because of this disease.

If a person is harmed by the use of hot water, he may perform Ghusl (ritual bath) with cold or warm water. In case the doctors decide that the disease increases or that its cure is delayed due to the use of water [whether it is hot or cold], then it becomes permissible for the person to perform Tayammum until the disease is treated, whether the patient is a man or a woman. However, one should not perform the prayer unless he/she performs Tayammum in order to make the prayer permissible for him/her. For more benefit on the cases in which Tayammum is permitted, please refer to Fataawa 82337 and 82475.

Also, it is not permissible for a person in a state of sexual defilement to recite the Quran, but if it is permissible for a person to perform Tayammum for the prayer, then it is permissible for him/her to perform Tayammum for the recitation of the Quran.

Allaah Knows best.
