Question:

I want to travel to Russia in the middle of the month of Ramadhaan. I will remain there for a month, that is to say, for fifteen days of Ramadhaan. Is it permissible for me to break my fast for all fifteen days as the sun there sets at about half past ten?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

According to the opinion of the majority of scholars which we adopt, it is impermissible for you to break your fast in Ramadan as long as you intend to stay there for fifteen days. This is because, if the traveler intends to stay in a certain country for four complete days other than the two days of arrival and departure or even more, the ruling of traveling does not apply to him. He becomes like the resident and he should complete his prayers and fast in Ramadan.

Allaah Knows best.
