She took an oath not to read about marriage

Question:

assalamu alaikumj brother, i made an oath that i will not read about marriage and something related to it because it makes me to increase my desires to get marry soon which is not possible now. and almost always i like to read about it. so i made this oath but now i feel that if i donot read, i will not know about it anything ,so now i want to read what i have to do now whether i should break my oath or remain in my oath . i donot know what to do itself counsil mme some thing really i want to get marry nothing else i think now a days what i have to do. may ALLAH reward you all for your wonderful work which you are carrying on now. and make you to carry on always insha ALLAH .

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

If reading about marriage incites your desires and lust, and this may lead you to be subjected to the reasons of temptation, then it is more appropriate to fulfill your oath [i.e. not to read about marriage]. Indeed, it is easy to know about marriage and the matters related to it. Rather, you may read about this after getting married.

However, if we presume that you broke your oath, then you are obliged to expiate for breaking your oath; for more benefit in this regard, please refer to Fatwa 87181.

Finally, it should be noted that it is permissible for a woman or her guardian to look for a pious husband for her as we have already clarified in Fataawa 83471 and 87295.
