Question:

Salamalikum,I have a question regarding masturbation.I know that it's haram and this act results in health problems like impotency, memory loss and nerve damage according to doctors and scholars in islam..I would like to know if there is any hadith or quranic verse that specifically talks about the health implication as specifically stated above..I need it for reference purpose..Thanks

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

There is no verse or Hadeeth which determines such harms that are mentioned in the question and which may result from masturbation. However, masturbation is forbidden for the Sharee'ah evidence that we clarified in Fatwa 81150.

The fact that doctors confirm such harms even confirms the prohibition. That is because harming one’s own self and exposing it to what harms health is forbidden in Islam. Allaah Says (what means): {…and do not throw [yourselves] with your [own] hands into destruction}[Quran 2:195] Allaah also Says (what means): {And do not kill yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allaah is to you ever Merciful.} [Quran 4:29]

Moreover, ‘Ubaadah Ibn As-Saamit may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) decreed that there should be no harm nor reciprocal harm. [Ahmad and Ibn Maajah]

Allaah Knows best.
