Question:

How can I persuade my non-Muslim neighbour of the Oneness of Allaah?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam, is His slave and messenger.

The most effective way of persuading disbelievers of the Oneness of Allaah The Almighty is the way of the Quran. First of all, it establishes the fact that Allaah is the only Creator, Possessor and Manager of the affairs of the universe; and this is called the Oneness of Divine Lordship. Once people are convinced and submit to the fact that Allaah is their Creator and their Lord, then the Quran establishes that Allaah is The Only One worthy of worship and this is called the Oneness of Worship. It is as if the Quran wants to state:  if you are certain that Allaah is your Creator and Provider, why then do you worship others?

As an example of this, you can read the chapter Al-Mu‘minoon and contemplate the Saying of Allaah (which means): {Say, [O Muhammad], "To whom belongs the earth and whoever is in it, if you should know?" They will say, "To Allaah." Say, "Then will you not remember?"}[Quran 23: 84-85] After that comes the amazing logical argument which indicates the Oneness of Allaah The Almighty in His Divine Lordship. Allaah Says (what means): {Allaah has not taken any son, nor has there ever been with Him any deity. [If there had been], then each deity would have taken what it created, and some of them would have sought to overcome others. Exalted is Allaah above what they describe [concerning Him].}[Quran 23:91]

Moreover, mentioning selections from the Prophet's, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, biography and his miracles and describing the greatness of Islam and the greatness of its legislation and rulings is a very effective means to invite people to Islam. This can also be achieved by explaining the Muslim's belief and attitude towards all the previous prophets and messengers sent by Allaah, and that Muslims believe in all of them without making the least distinction.

Another method is to explain the corruption, distortion and deviation that occurred to other religions. However, it is very important for a Muslim to be equipped with knowledge and firm belief lest his heart becomes affected by false allegations the disbelievers may bring up during the discussion.

Allaah Knows best.
