All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
According to the jurists the Tasaabeeh (plural of Tasbeehah, i.e. saying Subhaanallaah wal Hamdulillaah wa Laa Ilaaha Illaa Allaah) in the Tasbeeh prayer are said before the Tashahhud and not after.
The commentary of As-Saawi on Ash-Sharh As-Sagheer, which is one of the Maaliki books, reads: “And one should say the ten last (Tasaabeeh) while in his sitting position before Tashahhud.”
From the Hadeeth mentioned about the description of the Tasbeeh prayer, it appears that the four Rak’ahs should be performed successively without Tasleem (saying Salaam to conclude the prayer after the second Rak’ah). Also, it appears from the narration by At-Tabaraani that there is no Tashahhud except in the last Rak’ah as the Hadeeth reads: “…When you finish, you should say after Tashahhud and before Tasleem: O Allaah! I ask You the success which you granted to the people of guidance, and ask You the acts of the people of certainty…”
However, some scholars are of the view that if it (the Tasbeeh prayer) is performed at night, it is better to end the prayer by Tasleem after each two Raka’hs. Based on this, there would be two Tashahhuds.
In case one prays this prayer during the day, he may pray the Four Rak’ahs successively without saying Tasleem after the second Rak’ah, and he may also pray them with Tasleem after the second Rak’ah.
The author of ‘Awn Al-Ma’bood said: “At-Tirmithi reported from Ibn Al-Mubaarak, that he said: “In case one prays it at night, I prefer that he says Salaam after each two Rak’ahs, and if one prays them during the day, then if he wishes, he may say Salaam after two Rak’ahs, and if he wishes he may leave Tasleem after two Rak’ahs (i.e. he may pray the four Rak’ahs successively with one Tasleem.”
Nonetheless, the Maaliki School of jurisprudence is of the view that there is no difference between praying it at night and praying it during the day, and their view is that it should be performed by saying Salaam after each two Rak’ahs at both times. For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 83600.
