Question:

What is the ruling on traveling abroad to spread Islam?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

In principle, traveling for the purpose of spreading goodness and contemplating the greatness of the Creation of Allaah is permissible. Allaah Says (what means):

·       {Say, [O Muhammad], "Travel through the land ….}[Quran 27:69]

{Have they not traveled through the earth….}[Quran 30:9]

Traveling for Da‘wah and conveying the religion of Allaah is encouraged by the Sharee'ah. Allaah Says (what means): {And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is] good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and those will be the successful.}[Quran 3:104]

The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, traveled from Makkah to Taa'if on foot to call the people there to Allaah and convey His religion (Islam) to them. Whoever follows the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, in this regard is undoubtedly doing a great deed, for which equally great rewards from Allaah may be expected, if done sincerely for Allaah and in accordance with the way of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.

‘Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab may Allaah be pleased with him reported that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said that deeds are rewarded in accordance with the intentions behind them. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

 Allaah Knows best.
