The division of the Ummah (Muslim nation) and judging deviant sects

Question:

What are the deviant sects mentioned by the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam? Is the Tableeghi Jamaa‘ah one of them, knowing that they set out for Da‘wah (propagation) in the Masjids (mosques) for three days, forty days or four months?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said that this Ummah would be divided into different sects in a Hadeeth on the authority of Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him. [Abu Daawood, others]

We previously dealt with this Hadeeth in Fatwa 10945, in which we stated the criterion for the division. So please refer to it.

As for the Tableeghi Jamaa‘ah, it is not included among these deviant sects. Importantly, it is obligatory to judge them justly.

And Allaah Knows best.
