Question:

I am 13 years old. Neither I, my father, my brother nor my older sister perform the prayer. What should I do so that Allaah Would Guide me and them to pray? Please advise. May Allaah Reward you.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

Prayer is the pillar of Islam and it is the most important obligation next to the two testimonies of faith. It is the first thing for which one will be reckoned on the Day of Resurrection. When the prayer is accepted by Allaah, one will be successful and saved; and otherwise, he will be a loser.

Abandoning the prayer is Kufr (disbelief). Jaabir may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: "Between man and Shirk (polytheism) or Kufr is abandoning the prayer." [Muslim]

The majority of scholars are of the opinion that it is obligatory for the authorities to kill a person who does not pray. Some of the scholars are of the opinion that such a person is a non-Muslim.

Having stated this, here are some boosters in this regard:

First: Remembering the aforesaid meanings of the importance of prayer, its position in Islam as well as the danger of abandoning it.

Second: You should remember the favors of Allaah upon you. Allaah Has Created, Proportioned, Destined and then Guided. It is obligatory, therefore, to meet such favors with thankfulness. The greatest aspect of thankfulness is when such organs are submissively humble with remembrance, bowing and prostration to The Lord of the worlds.

Third: Fearing Allaah and avoiding the consequences of abandoning the prayer. According to some scholars, the punishment of abandoning the prayer will be eternal residence in Hell.

Fourth: Having sincere willingness and asking Allaah The Almighty for guidance.

We ask Allaah The Almighty to grant you success to be steadfast on the religion and obedience to The Lord of the worlds.

Allaah Knows best.
