Question:

asslm alykm, pls i would like to know, if in a situation one is still reading the qur'an and is afraid might not be able to finish it before this ramadan comes. so what can one do, supposing i also want to try and read the complete qur'an in ramadan. do i stop it halfway and start from beginning in ramadan or just keep on reading and not be able to complete it in ramadan. jazakallah khair

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

Reciting a great deal of Quran in Ramadan is highly recommended. What is prescribed is to go on reciting until you finish the Khatmah (one complete reading of the whole Quran) and then start a new Khatmah until you finish it (before Ramadan ends). If you are able to do that, then all praise be to Allaah; otherwise, you will get the reward of what you have recited; for surely Allaah does not allow the reward of the good doers to be lost. In this case, you can complete the Khatmah you have started after Ramadan ends; for reciting Quran is prescribed in all times and it was not reported from our Salaf (righteous predecessors), according to our knowledge, that they used to interrupt their Khatmah to start a new one in the beginning of Ramadan.

Allaah Knows best.
