The Salafi school and responding to Muslims’ affairs

Question:

Is the Salafi school considered a valid Islamic school of thought?
Why do those who call themselves Salafis not care about Muslims' affairs, like the case of Palestine?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds.  I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Generally, Salafiyyah  means following the methodology of the righteous predecessors: the Companions of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, the Taabi‘is (the followers) and those who follow them rightly until the Day of Resurrection.

No one should be considered as belonging to the Salafi methodology just on simple claims.  Rather, the methodology of anyone or any group that claims to belong to the Salafi school must be examined.  If it is proved that he or it really follows the methodology of the righteous predecessors, then we may accept this claim.  Otherwise, we should know that it is false.

Caring for Muslims' affairs is one of the foundations of the Salafi methodology, as a way of implementing the commandments and guidance of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. This is explained in the Hadeeth that was narrated on the authority of An-Nu‘maan ibn Basheer may Allaah be pleased with him that believers, in terms of their mutual kindness, compassion and sympathy, are just like one body: when one limb suffers the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever.  [Muslim]

Thus, whoever claims to belong to the Salafi school of jurisprudence without adhering to its upright methodology will be open to blame, not the Salafi school to which he claims affiliation.

You should be aware that caring for Muslims' affairs is not confined to merely presenting such affairs and cases to people in lectures and sermons, but it must be achieved through several means, according to individual ability. These means include:

•        Financial assistance

•        Supplication

•        Warning Muslims against the cunning of their enemies

•        Enlightening Muslims by explaining the relevant Sharee’ah rulings.

Finally, we ask Allaah The Almighty to guide us all.

Allaah Knows best.
