Question:

Is there any virtue for standing on the Imaam's right side in the congregational prayer? Would you please provide evidence from Sharee‘ah.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

It is virtuous to stand on the Imaam's right side rather than his left in the congregational prayer, due to the following proofs:

1-      ‘Aa’ishah may Allaah be pleased with her narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: "Allaah and His angels Confer blessings on the right side of the rows (in the congregational prayer)." [Abu Daawood and Ibn Maajah; Al-Haafith: Hasan]

2-      It was narrated that Al-Baraa’ may Allaah be pleased with him said: "When we prayed behind the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, we liked to stand on his right side." [An-Nasaa’i; Al-Haafith: Saheeh]

Allaah Knows best.
