Valid reasons for divorce

What are the valid reasons for divorce under Sharee‘ah?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

There are many reasons for divorce; for it was prescribed for the need of the spouses. We can summarize such reasons as follows:

1-    If the wife is not a righteous or a well-mannered Muslim woman, or both.

2-    The husband’s inability to fulfill his wife’s rights over him duly; such as providing for her and so on.

3-    The husband’s total repulsion and sexual disinterest in his wife due to the lack of pleasure in intercourse and so on.

4-    The wife’s ill-conduct, contempt and arrogant attitude towards her husband.

5-    Due to the order of a parent as long as it was with no intransigence and provided that it is based on a valid reason under Sharee‘ah.
