Not every caller to Islam is a Religious Jurist

Question:

Many people criticize some callers to Islam such as ‘Amr Khaalid and Taariq Suwaydaan. What is your opinion? Please tell us the names of the scholars whom we can trust in religious matters.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

A Muslim should accept the truth from anyone who says it and; likewise, he should reject what is wrong from anyone who says it. Therefore, if the named two men said something right it should be accepted from them, and if they said something wrong it should be rejected from them.  However, if people can not determine what is right or wrong because they do not possess enough knowledge on Islamic rulings and laws, then one should take religious information from known righteous scholars, who are spread in so many countries, thanks to Allaah The Almighty.

Moreover, religious rulings should not be taken from just any one; they should be only taken from scholars. In fact, not every one who preaches and advises people can be asked about the Islamic rulings. Nevertheless, anyone who calls people to Allaah is still praised for the efforts he makes in guiding Muslims and reminding them of virtue.

There are many famous scholars known for their sound knowledge such as ‘Abdul-‘Azeez Ibn Baaz, and Muhammad ibn Saalih Al-‘Uthaymeen, may Allaah have mercy upon them and many other scholars in many Islamic countries.

Please review Fatwa 87643 regarding belittling those who call to Allaah.

Allaah Knows best.
