Question:

Salam i have a friend who is suffering quite a lot while trying to do Salah everytime he starts reciting fateha he has the overwhelming need/feel to speak or swear so that his Salah gets broken and that he starts reciting again. In congreational Salah he bites his tongue so that he doesn't speak or swear, this only happens in Salah its come to a point where he feels not praying is easier as its costing him 6 hours of his life each day to pray. I suggested to him if this urge carries on i told him yo speak and continue praying but his saying if he speaks and continues his Salah his Salah is invalid Allah won't accept it from him and as a reselut he will be deemed as a kaafir please help tjos brother he is very genuine and sincere but its visting him 6 hours a day his got family who don't see him for basic needs as his too busy starting and stopping his Salah because he keeps on speaking in salah

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

There is no doubt that your friend has an illness. We advise him to consult a reliable doctor. He should also strive to avoid speaking during the Prayer, and he should not interrupt the Prayer no matter what happens.

In case he is not able to avoid speaking and he actually speaks, then he should continue the Prayer and not interrupt it as he is considered as being compelled into doing so, and he is not sinful.

Based on that, he should pray once and he should not repeat the prayer, and whatever he speaks does not harm him as he is compelled and forced to do so, because this happens out of his control. He should continue to strive against this condition and to seek treatment until Allaah heals him of this disease. We ask Allaah to cure him and grant him wellness.

Allaah Knows best.
