Treating magic spell with lead is sorcery

Question:

What is the Islamic ruling on treating magic with lead? I went to a man who does Ruqyah (Quranic healing) with the Quran and he told me that I was under a spell. Consequently, he gave me pieces of lead on which he read Quranic verses and asked me to melt them over a fire until they become pure like silver.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

The legislated Ruqyah, which involves Quranic verses and the Names and Attributes of Allaah The Almighty, is the best cure for breaking magic [spells] and neutralizing their effect. In the case, we advise the questioner to do the following:

  • Resort to Allaah The Almighty through supplicating Him to help her recover.
  • Reading the verse of Al-Kursi (the Chair) [Quran 2:255] and Al-Mu‘awithataan (Chapters Al-Falaq and An-Naas).
  • Observing the 'Athkaar (mentionings of Allaah) of the morning and the evening.
  • Remembering and mentioning Allaah The Almighty much.
  • Performing acts of worship regularly.

If she continues to do these on a regular basis, she will recover by the permission of Allaah The Almighty. Moreover, there is no blame if you seek the help of a righteous and pious person to do the legislated Ruqyah for her.

Let her beware of fraudsters and sorcerers who will not cure her, but will only increase her suffering. Burning lead then using it as a treatment, as mentioned in the question, is an example of how such people treat, and there is no evidence in the Sharee’ah to support this practice.

Allaah Knows best.
