Emission of semen after performing Ghusl from Janaabah

Question:

It is permissible for a man to perform Ghusl from Janaabah without urinating? Can he pray after that Ghusl?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

It is obligatory to perform Ghusl (ritual bath) from Janaabah (state of ritual impurity); Allaah The Exalted Says (what means): {…And if you are in a state of Janaabah, then purify yourselves.} [Quran 5:6]

The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said:

"When a man sits in between the four parts of a woman and the two circumcised parts touch, then bathing becomes obligatory." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]  The following addition is in Imaam Muslim’s version of this narration: “Even if there is no ejaculation of semen.”

This is the ruling according to the consensus of the four Schools of Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence); Imaam An-Nawawi said, “This is the opinion of the majority of Muslim scholars, Companions, and Taabi‘oon, and their followers.”

Urinary discharge after having sexual intercourse is not a requisite for a valid Ghusl. Rather, the person should perform ablution if something comes out after he has performed Ghusl. Imaam ‘Abdur-Razzaaq in his Musannaf and Ibn Abi Shaybah reported on the authority of Al-Awzaa‘i that Az-Zuhri was asked about men or women experiencing discharges after performing Ghusl and he said, “They only have to wash their private parts and perform ablution.”
