Repentance of sorcerer

Question:

What should a sorcerer do so that Allaah The Almighty accepts his repentance?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

Whoever practices sorcery or commits any act of disobedience is required to sincerely repent to Allaah The Almighty and stop committing the sin. According to the Sharee'ah texts, for the disobedient person who stops and repents, Allaah The Almighty, out of His favor, grace and generosity, accepts his repentance and forgives his sin. In this regard, He Says (what means):

  • {But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.} [Quran 20: 82]
  • {Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them. But if they return [to hostility] - then the precedent of the former [rebellious] peoples has already taken place.} [Quran 8: 38]

Allaah the Almighty accepts sincere repentance even if the sinner has committed grave major sins and acts of disobedience, such as Shirk (polytheism) and murder.

Any money that the sorcerer received in return for practicing sorcery is unlawful and must be disposed of by spending it for the benefit of Muslims - if indeed any of it remains with him. If he has already consumed and utilized it, then we hope that Allaah The Almighty will forgive him for that.

Allaah Knows best.
