Question:

As Salaamu Alaykum A Muslim woman has been living with a non Muslim man for many years, they never married, now he wants to become a Muslim. What should they do to organize their lives as ordered by Allah SWA..once Inshaa Allah he make shahada? Jazaka Allah Khairn Was Salaamu Alaykum

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

This Muslim sister should know that living with that man is an evil matter, and it is a kind of taking lovers which took place in the Jaahiliyyah (pre-Islamic era of ignorance), and which Islam has forbidden. Allaah says (what means): {They should be chaste, neither of those who commit unlawful intercourse randomly nor those who take [secret] lovers.} [Quran 4:25] Therefore, she must repent and separate from this man immediately.

Then if he embraces Islam and becomes a good Muslim and abides by the apparent rituals of Islam, such as the prayer, it will be permissible for her to marry him. However, it should be noted that non-Muslims often pretend to embrace Islam in order to achieve a purpose, among which is marriage. Once he achieves his purpose, he reveals his true character and problems arise between him and his wife. Please refer to Fatwa 222130.

Allaah Knows best.
