Selling steroids online

Question:

Salam aleikum, I once asked about anabolic steroids but didnt get a detailed answer and I still have some doubts. To make it short, I am of the opinion that the medicine itself is not haram as it is used for threatment of various diseases, but it al depends on the use of it etc. As allah didnt make any thing haram a threatment for the diseas. Now I want to tell it like this, I have this idea in My head that by doing this there is greater benefit then harm both for myself both also for the muslims, as I can earn a lot of Money, and expand it to bigger bussiness, and help the muslims and the muslim countries in developing which we are in great need of in these days, also as a preparation for the future as Allah commands us to do. The Steroids will be sold to people who has Deep knowledge about the medicine and also they are bodybuilders which Means that is a big par of their life, and mostly they are from UK and USA etc.The argument that I would be haram is that I Wold assist in mukar by selling to people who are going up on stages and flexing muscles and show their awrah and so on. But here I would say then it is also impermissible to sell protein powder? and also Actually I will be selling from a website so I dont know the buyers personally, so what is the rulling on this? The reason I think a lot about it, is that I have a friend who is one of the leading seller/manufacture in this area, so I have a huge potential to make big amounts of Money, and benefit the muslims, and my thought goes to our situation today which in my Humble opinion is a situation of need and necessity.Hope you could clarify this question in dept for me, in order to remove all doubts from my mind insha Allah.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

First of all, we ask Allaah to reward you for your desire to gain lawful income and for doing what will benefit the Muslims and lead to their progress, and we ask Allaah to enable you to fulfill your aspirations.

The scholars have established an important rule which merits mention in this context: everything is presumed to be lawful (unless it is proven otherwise). The evidence for this is the words of Allaah (which mean): {It is He who created for you all of that which is on the earth…} [Quran 2:29] Allaah reminds His creation about His favors that He blessed them with, in the things that He created for them in this world. Nothing is forbidden except what the Sharee'ah forbids.

Among those things, i.e. the things that are permissible, are the hormones which you have mentioned if their ingredients do not include what is forbidden or impure, like the flesh of swine for example, and provided that using them does not result in harm. If so, they are forbidden. Ibn Abbaas may Allaah be pleased with him related that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “There should be no harm nor reciprocal harm.” [Ahmad]

What you have mentioned about people buying these steroids and possibly using them to show their muscles or parts of their ‘Awrah in front of people does not make it forbidden for you to sell them, especially since you sell through the internet and you do not know who will buy from you. So the rule is that trade is permissible as mentioned above, and the rule does not change due to suspicion and doubts alone.

Allaah Knows best.
