Question:

We are a group of Muslims who are preparing an Islamic magazine. Would you please advise us in its regards and suggest an attractive title for it?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

We suggest naming this Islamic magazine "Enlightenment".  This name is taken from the Quranic verses in which Allaah Says (what means):

*       {There has come to you enlightenment from your Lord. So whoever will see does so for [the benefit of] his soul, and whoever is blind [does harm] against it. And [say], "I am not a guardian over you."}[Quran 6:104]

*       {This [Quran] is enlightenment for mankind and guidance and mercy for a people who are certain [in faith].}[Quran 45:20]

With regard to the meaning of this title, the original word in Arabic is Basaa'ir, which means enlightenment and strong evidence that distinguishes good from evil.

We advise you to emphasize on the correct Islamic Creed and expose the false beliefs and innovations which contradict it.  You should also focus on educational, behavioral and intellectual issues that concern Muslims today, and highlight the current challenges and dangers facing the Muslims and the means to confront them. You should always support what you write with the statements of the scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah Wal-Jamaa'aj.

Allaah Knows best.
